Two-Motor Cluster!
TAN-SAM (TYPE 81) SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE
(Japan)
TAN-SAM is one of the latest additions to the Japan
Self-Defense Force’s arsenal. It is a lightweight, portable system for use
against low-to-medium level targets, and is intended to replace the aging HAWK
system (both HAWK models also in this catalog). TAN-SAM (TAN meaning
"short", as in "short-range") uses an improved, much more
compact tracking system than HAWK, has a range of approximately 10 km, and
reaches speeds of Mach 2.4. The real missile is only 2.7 meters long and 16
centimeters in diameter, putting it in the approximate size range of Roland.
Two motors simultaneously blast our LAUNCH PAD version of the
TAN-SAM on its way. You’ll be more than pleased with this 44 inch tall,
1/2.42 scale powerhouse. Paired "D" motors loft it to surprising
altitudes. Our kit version supplies two of our 18" diameter Mylar
parachutes, or a single 18" x 30" oblong ‘chute for a satin-soft
recovery. Despite its large size, TAN-SAM can be launched from almost all
standard tripod model rocket launchers, when equipped with a 3/16" diameter
launch rod. Watch the reactions of the other flyers at your next launch when
TAN-SAM takes off on its next intercept mission!
